Homework will be set every Friday and must be handed in by the following Wednesday (unless otherwise stated).
TOPIC
Our topic for next term will be "Who was Roald Dahl?" Roald Dahl was a well-known British author who wrote funny and engaging children's stories. We would like your child to complete the fact file template they were given to research a few facts about the well-known author as homework over the half-term break. Roald Dahl fact file template
MATHS
Please encourage your child to complete the tasks on Sumdog and Times Tables Rockstars each day. They can also use the following website to reinforce their learning: https://www.topmarks.co.uk/maths-games/daily10
SPELLING
Our spellings this week are words adding ‘-ing’ to words of one syllable. When adding ‘ing’ to words of one syllable, the last letter is double to keep the short vowel sound.
Patting, humming, dropping, running, hopping, clapping, sitting, flipping, wrapping, slipping
Children will be tested on their spellings every Friday. In order to develop the children’s writing skills, we would like them to complete spelling homework each week. It would be good practice for them to include each word in a different sentence, to demonstrate that they understand how to use the word in context. Remember to underline the word that they have included in the sentence. The children will bring their spelling books home on Friday, so that you can see their spellings scores, however, make sure the children bring their spelling books to hand in to their teacher on Mondays.
COMPUTING
Please kindly continue to ask the children to practise touch-typing. Click on the link below to help them.
READING
Please make sure your child is reading their reading book as they will need to take a quiz to assess their understanding of the book. This is why they must read the book and comprehend what they have read. In Year 2, your child will be building up a range of reading skills. They should have strong phonics knowledge and growing comprehension skills, which will help them read more broadly, confidently, and fluently. Please encourage your child to read for at least 10 minutes each day. Ask them to read aloud to a member of your family. Remember to talk about the book.
What might happen next?
How do you think the character is feeling? Why do you think that?
What happened in the story?
Can you find a word that means the same as ............?
What is the definition of .........? If you don't know, can you find it in the dictionary?
Did you enjoy the story? Why?
Have you read a different story that has similar themes in to this story?
Remember to refer back to the text when answering the questions.
